After graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1938, Miss McClure received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas and Master of Arts from Emporia State University; also, additional graduate hours from the University of Wyoming and Denver University (on fellowships to both universities). She taught in the Osawatomie school system from 1943 until her retirement in 1986. She taught fifth grade at the Meek School from 1943 until 1945, and from 1945 until 1986 at Osawatomie High School. With English and literature as her disciplines, she taught freshmen, sophomore, junior, and college prep English classes. She also taught drama/speech and remedial reading. She served as a sponsor for the Kayette organization, the Junior Red Cross and speech/drama clubs.

1982, Named Secondary Teacher of the Year by Native Sons and Daughters

1988, Hall of Fame

Elected to the honorary scholastic society, Pi Lambda Theta.

2003, named Outstanding Alumni from the Osawatomie Alumni Association
