AUGUST 8, 1937 - FEBRUARY 8, 2012

H. Dean Brown, age 74, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Wednesday February 8, 2012 at Emeritus of Overland Park in Overland Park, Kansas, after battling with dementia.

Dean was born August 8, 1937 in Pond Creek, Oklahoma to James Robert and Anna Elizabeth (Garten) Brown. He was the youngest of five children.

He graduated from Pond Creek High School in the class of 1955.

Dean was married on April 12, 1959 in Enid, Oklahoma to Barbara Kay Howard. They made there home in Stillwater, Ok. where he was attending Oklahoma State University for his Bachelors Degree in Education.

The family then moved to Wellington, Kansas in 1961 where he taught English and Journalism. In 1967 they moved to Horton, Kansas where he was a Guidance Counselor until 1970 when they moved to Eudora, Kansas and became the High School principal. In 1974 they moved to Osawatomie, Kansas where he was the High School Principal for twenty years until retirement in 1994. His final year he served as co-superintendent. After retirement Dean was the Guidance Counselor at Prairie View High School for one year 1996-1997.

Dean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was involved in several clubs: Lions Club, NEA, NASSP and a life long member of Elks Lodge #921 of Osawatomie, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elza Brown; three sisters, Roberta McCary, Vonna Roles and Eleanor Quigley.

He is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Teri Kay (Brown) Auten of Osawatomie, Kansas, Michele Deanne (Brown) Swartz of Springville, Iowa and Jana Jo Brown of rural Lane, Kansas; six Grandchildren: Ashley, Alyssa, Jakeb and Jared Auten, Anna and Lindsey Swartz; many other relatives and friends and students.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Osawatomie High School Auditorium in Osawatomie, Kansas. Followed by burial in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Visitation 3 to 6pm Saturday, February 11th at the Presbyterian Church in Osawatomie, Kansas.
