After high school Rob attended Kansas University for 3 years and majored in Pharmacy. During the summer he would work for the Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad. After going to school and working for the railroad for three summers he decided that he would start working for the railroad full time. So in 1976, he was hired fulltime as a brakeman and ended up taking the test to become a conductor for the Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad.

In 1982, Rob met Dawn Dobschuetz and they started dating. Two years later in 1984, they married in Osawatomie at the Old Stone Church on September 29. They made their home in Osawatomie until 1989 when they moved to Paola. Together they have two children Joel and Sarah.

Rob had a different schedule on the railroad but he always made time for his kid’s activities. He rarely missed games or school activities. He helped his son all the way through boy scouts and went on camping trips with him.

Rob had lots of hobbies, from fishing to carpentry, reading, camping and hiking. He loved going to the Royals and Chiefs game with his family. He was always willing to tailgate, come rain or shine, at the stadiums or at his daughter’s house, it didn’t matter. Rob enjoyed games like ping- pong, pool and darts. He would play backgammon and he was really good at crossword puzzles. Rob was very knowledgeable about computers, even taught himself to build them. The most important thing in Rob’s life was his family. Most recently his granddaughter Claire. They had a special handshake and language they talked.
