LOUIS BENJAMIN HANEY

Services for Louis Benjamin Haney, Basehor, were held Saturday in the First Baptist Church. Mr. Haney, a former Osawatomie resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1993, at his home. He was 57.

The son of Frank and Pearl Cunningham Haney, he was bom Jan.19, 1936, in Richmond. The family moved to the rural Osawatomie area in 1937 and he was a 1954 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

Mr. Haney retired in December 1992 after 36 years of service with the state of Kansas, 34 of those years working with the Department of : Transportation, mostly in Kansas City, Kan.

He lived near Olathe for about 10 years before moving to Basehor in 1974.

At the time of his death, he was serving as president of the board of education for Basehor-Linwood Unified School District No. 458. He was elected to the board in 1980 and had served as president of the board four years.

He was a past president and currently serving as secretary of the Basehor Lions Club. Mr. Haney was a member of the Basehor Athletic Assn. and coordinated the Basehor Junior Girls Basketball League.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Basehor.

He and Donna Jeane Brooks were married May 27, 1955, in Osawatomie. She survives.

Among those preceding him in death were two brothers, Ray, who died in 1977, and Frank Jr., who died in 1988, and a sister who died in infancy in 1939.

Other survivors include his father and stepmother, Frank and Mildred Haney, Burlingame; three daughters Kristina Smith, Leavenworth, Nancy Lanza, Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Sue Haney, Princeton; two brothers Arthur Haney, Leavenworth, and Karl Haney, Bevier, Mo.; a sister, Marietta McConnell, Topeka; and four grandchildren.

Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Bonner Springs, under the direction of Alden-Harrington Funeral Home of Bonner Springs.

Memorials have been established in his name to Kansas City Hospice, 6601 Winchester, Suite 250, Kansas City, Mo. 64133 and the First Baptist Church of Basehor.
