DONNA BARDEN DAVIS

DECEMBER 14, 1934 - JANUARY 17, 2006

Donna Jean Davis, 71, longtime Osawatomie resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at her home.

She was the daughter of James Fred and Eva May Surber Barden and was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Osawatomie. She graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1952.

She married Charlie A. Davis Sr. on April 2, 1954. They became the parents of four children. They divorced in 1975.

She worked at Osawatomie State Hospital from 1970 until 1997. She began working there as a psychiatric aide and was promoted to security officer in January 1979. She worked as a security officer until 1989 and then went back to work as a licensed mental health technician in February 1990 until March 1997, when she left due to health reasons.

Solving word puzzles was a favorite pastime.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie.

Those preceding her in death include a son, Kevin, who died in 1987, and three sisters, Mildred Marvin, Velma Betcher and Winnie Osman. Her companion of 30 years, Guy "Junior" Clay, also preceded her in death in September 2005.

Surviving are two sons, Charlie A. Davis Jr. of Paola and Randall A. Davis of Savannah, Texas; a daughter, Sherry L. Zander of Edgerton; two brothers, Fred Barden of Emporia and Marvin Barden of Paola; a sister, Helen Rhodes of Osawatomie; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Beagle Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Davis, Corey Haskins, Matt Davis, Kenny Davis, John Davis, Travis Marvin, Jeremy Marvin and Shawn Marvin.

Memorials may be made to the Area Agency on Aging for Miami County.
