MARVIN EARL RHOADES

APRIL 28, 1933 - JUNE 18, 2003

Marvin Earl Rhoades, 70, a longtime Paola resident, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, in North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola.

He was born April 28, 1933 in Paola, the son of George Washington and Etta Mae Swearingen Rhoades. He graduated in 1951 from Osawatomie High School.

He enlisted in the U.S.Army in 1953 and served in the Korean War. He was discharged in 1955 as a corporal.

He and Eleanor Hickman were married Jan. 14, 1956 in Eureka Springs, KS.

Mr. Rhoades was employed with Knecht Equipment Co. in Paola for 30 years and later for McConnell Equipment Co. of Lawrence for seven years before retiring in 1993.

He moved in 1993 from Baldwin City to Camdenton, MO and back to Paola in September 2000.

He was a life member of Sheldon-Banta Memorial Post No. 3712, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Paola and had served as a club manager for 20 years. Mr. Rhoades was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 921 of Osawatomie.

Two sisters, Alice Lattimore and Edith Ledom, were among those preceding him in death.

Those surviving are his wife, Eleanor Rhoades of the home; a daughter, Carol Lorene Howard of Paola; two sons, James A. Rhoades of Austin, MN and David E. Rhoades of Paola; two stepsons, Michael Casida of Butler, MO and Don Casida of Belton, MO; two sisters, Ruth Evans of Ottawa and Ethel England of Greeley; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial was in Beagle Cemetery.
