FAYE JOANNE PLAISTED PRITCHARD

Faye Joanne Pritchard, 84, Paola, died Nov. 12, 2014, at the University of Kansas Hospital.

Joanne was born March 22, 1930, to Roy Waldo and Mildred Florence Nickelson Plaisted in Garnett. They lived on the family farm two miles west of Garnett. She went to a country one-room school house, Centennial School. On Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, 1941, the family moved to Osawatomie.

Joanne graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1948. In high school, she worked as a waitress in Harry’s Café and Coffee Shop, both large restaurants, and Jim & Charlie’s Sandwich Shop. After graduation Joanne worked at Osawatomie State Hospital and three other hospitals as a nurse’s aide.

On July 18, 1953, Joanne was married to Charles I. “Bud” Pritchard. They became the parents of daughters Deborah Jo and Rhonda Gail.

Joanne was a stay-at-home wife and mother. She opened a day care in her home for 10 years. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for a local grain elevator, worked at King Radio, which later was Honeywell, for 13 years, opened another day care center in her home for 10 more years, worked at Country Club Estates as a nurse’s aide for 10 years. After retiring in 1992, she worked at several nursing homes, retiring at age 82. Joanne has always cherished her most loving job and was devoted to her children and grandchildren.

She always put God first in her life and shared the love of Jesus. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Paola. She taught Sunday school for 48 years, sang in the church choir for 43 years, served on many committees, offices and boards in the church. She formed a telephone prayer chain in her church in 1976 and was still in charge of that busy endeavor until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Gerry Dial and Mary Jean Price; and two brothers, Robert Plaisted and Wesley Plaisted.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Jo Morgan of Pleasanton and Rhonda Gail Eaker of Ottawa; four grandchildren, Jeremy Morgan of Pleasanton, Jim Eaker of Paola, Wendy Johnston (Sean) of Osawatomie and Candice L’Ecuyer (David) of Eudora; five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Peyton and Shayne Johnston of Osawatomie, Anna Faye L’Ecuyer of Eudora and Chloe Gail Eaker of Paola; two brothers, Larry Plaisted (Herna) and Ronnie Plaisted (Carol).

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071, (913) 294-2372. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at First Baptist Church, 207 E. Wea St., Paola. Burial will be in Osawatomie Cemetery.
