Betty L. Spooner, 86, Independence, Mo., died at VITAS Hospice Center, KCMO on Sunday, January 20, 2013.

She was born May 3, 1926, in Osawatomie, Kan., to the Alvin and Ethel Sharp. She attended Osawatomie High School.

On Sept. 9, 1945, she married William E. Spooner.

She is survived by her children, Penney Branstetter (Bill), Linda Lyles (Ron), Judy Carson, Janice Weiss (Charlie), Stan Spooner (Debbie), Kristy Gregath (Mike) and Bob Spooner; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She is further survived by nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many friends.

Betty touched the lives of many people with her friendly and caring personality. She enjoyed working at Independence Medical Center in the dietary department before retiring in 1991. She enjoyed sewing, reading and cooking for her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, mother and father, four siblings, one son-in-law, Bill and one granddaughter, Lyndsie.

The family will receive friends 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, with a graveside service to follow at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills.
