DECEMBER 12, 1912 - OCTOBER 21, 1992

Harry B. Brandon, 79, of Wellington, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1992, at the Friendship Manor.

He was born on Dec. 12, 1912, in Little Rock. Ark., the son of Harry B.and Ethel (Laughlin) Brandon.

The Brandon family moved to Osawatomie, Kan., where Harry attended school and graduated from the Osawatomie High School in 1930. He then attended and graduated from Kansas State in Manhattan. After graduation he was employed in Topeka by the State of Kansas until entering the U. S. Navy where he served during World War II.

He married Mary Belle Stephens in Ashland, Kan., on June 13, 1937. They moved to Wellington in 1950 and he was employed by Ivan Mantooth as an accountant. In 1957 Brandon moved to Argonia and entered the furniture business with Frank Horton. He returned to Wellington in 1961 where he was employed by the First Federal Savings and Loan, first as secretary-treasurer and in 1971 was promoted to executive vice-pesident, a postion he held until his retirement on Oct. 1, 1978.

During his employment at Frist Federal he had been a director of the Kanas Savings and Loan League Institute, a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Savings and Loan League, and a member of the Educational Advisory Committee of the League.

Brandon was a member of theFirst Presbyterian Church and was an Elder in the church. He had been a member of and past president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce; member of the Wellington Housing Authority; past chairman of the Sumner County American Red Cross; and a past district chairman of the Boy Scounts of Ameria. He had also been a member of the Wellington Elks Lodge, Wellington Masonic Lodge No. 150, Consistory in Wichita, St. Lukes Hospital Board of Trustees and the Tom Schwinn American Legion Post No. 90.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Mary Michal Brandon on Nov. 12, 1966.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Belle, of Wellington; son, Harry 'Skip' Brandon III, of Falls Church, Va.; sister, Jamie Bergman, of Tempe, Ariz.; and a grandson.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Oct. 24, 1992, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Rodda officiating. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery in Ashland with the Rev. Sue Watkins officiating.

Memorials were established with the First Presbyterian Church and Wellington Public Library. Arrangements made by Hawks Funeral Home,Wellington.
