SEWELL WHITNEY

CLASS OF 1929

 JULY 12, 1911 - NOVEMBER 29, 1976

Services for a former Osawatomie resident, Sewell F. "Perk" Whitney, were held Friday in the United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Whitney died Nov. 29, 1976, in the Tucson Arizona Medical Center. He was 65.

Born July 12, 1911 near Westphalia, he was the oldest child of Wallace and Ethel Cook Whitney. At an early age, he came here with his parents. He attended school in Osawatomie and graduated with the Class of 1929 from Osawatomie High School.

He married Lenora Berryman July 19, 1933 and they were parents of a daughter.

He was employed as a caller for the Missouri Pacific Railroad; worked at General Motors for a number of years; served as a sales supervisor for Security Plans; and worked in real estate.

On May 11, 1974, he married Doris Bradley in the United Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie. They made their home here until September 1975 when they moved to Tucson.

Mr. Whitney was a member of the Old Mission Masonic Lodge and was a Scottish Rite Mason.

Among the survivors are the widow, Doris, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. William Kile III, Albuquerque, N.M.: two brothers, Wallace Whitney, St. Joseph, Mo. and Everett Whitney, Osawatomie; four sisters, Mrs. C. R. Kester, and Mrs. Wayne E. Diediker, Osawatomie, Mrs. LaVern Diediker, Topeka, and Rosalie Whitney, Mesa, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

The Rev. David Irwin officiated at the services. Music was provided by Mrs. John Dollar and Dean Diediker. Nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery under the direction of Birchard Funeral Home. Masonic services were held at the graveside.
