CLASS OF 1928

JULY 11, 1911 - APRIL 23, 2005 

Aileen Potter, age 93, passed away at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS, April 23, 2005, with her two daughters at her side. Mrs. Potter was born July 11, 1911, in Parker, KS, to Alan Lee and Florence Esther (Lanning) Holloway.

She attended high school in Osawatomie, KS, graduated at 16 and became one of the first members of the Osawatomie National Honor Society. She graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College in Pittsburg, KS, in 1930, with a Teaching Certificate. After graduation, she taught school at Shawnee Grade School in Shawnee, KS.

In 1932, she married Ronald Potter of LaCygne, KS, where in 1938, she was initiated into the P.E.O. Sisterhood. They had two daughters. In 1943, the family moved to Turner, KS, where Aileen became secretary at Turner Grade School. She served in that capacity for 35 years. She was honored for her long, devoted service by receiving a spot on the Turner Walk of Fame at Pierson Park. While living in Turner, the family attended Turner Baptist Church, where for years she taught a girls Junior High School Sunday School Class.

She enjoyed gardening, music, traveling, volunteering and visiting with her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, John Holloway. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Enloe, husband, Donald; daughter, Carol Hardten, husband, Ronald; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one greatgreat-grandchild; and numerous friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 26, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 10100 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m., with the funeral following at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne, KS.
