CLASS OF 1921 d. JUNE 24, 1991 Ada Caroline Saunders, 90, a retired Osawatomie school teacher, died Monday, June 24, 1991, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Osawatomie. She was born on a farm near New Lancaster, Kan., in Miami County, on Oct. 14, 1900, the daughter of Will and Lora Saunders. She grew up in this area and attended the Osawatomie High School graduating with the class of 1921. She received her teaching degree from Emporia State University. Miss Saunders taught for 43 years in the Osawatomie school district. She retired in 1967. She supported a foster child in Greece for five years through the Foster Parent’s Plan. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teachers’ sorority. Miss Saunders liked to travel and made trips both in this country and abroad. Miss Saunders was a member of the first United Methodist Church of Osawatomie and the Philathea Class and was a longtime church school teacher. Her parents and a sister, Leila, preceded her in death. Cousins survive. The services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The Rev. Ted Hunter officiated. Music was provided by Robert Lorenz. The selections were “Ivory Palaces” and “How Great Thou Art.” The burial was in the New Lancater Cemetery. The pallbearers were Ernest Swenson, Bill Lewis, Glenn Ricketts, Walter Hays, Emmett Keller and Doug Tyrell. Memorials have been established in her name to the Osawatomie Public Library. |
