CHARLES HARRY COKER

PENNY FARMS, FLA. - Memorial services were held Sunday in Penny Memorial Church for the Rev. Charles Harry Coker, 76. Mr. Coker died March 13. He had lived here since his retirement June 12, 1960.

Born in Cedar Junction, Kan. Oct. 6, 1893, he was a son of Joseph L. and Cora Voorus Coker. In 1898, the family moved to a farm in the Green Valley Community near Osawatomie, Kan.

Mr. Coker attended Green Valley and Osawatomie schools, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1919, and later Baker University, Garrett Theological Seminary, Northwestern University and Yale Divinity School. He worked for several years in Coker Brothers & Co., Store in Osawatomie.

On June 17, 1924, he was married to Maude B. McCabe in Evanston, Ill.

Methodist churches served by Mr. Coker included those in Homewood and Burlington, Kan.; New Milford and Westport, Conn.; and Westhampton, Oyster Bay and Brooklyn, N.Y.; as well as a congregational church in Bridgewater, Conn. He had several religious writings published, did research in his field, and at one time, wrote editorials for the Osawatomie News.

Mr. Coker also worked in genealogy and served as historian for his family.

Survivors include his wife, Maude, of the home; one son, Robert C. Coker, Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Floyd G. Coker, Osawatomie, an John William Coker, Paola, Kans.; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Tice and Mrs. Ivan Cartwright, Osawatomie; and two grandchildren.

Burial was in Memorial Home Community Cemetery.
