September 29, 2006

The Alumni Board met on September 21, 2006. Part of our discussion was the continuation of the dance. It was decided by a unanimous decision to continue for one more year. However we need your help. Some of the issues of the dance are:

1) Attendance
2) Type of music or entertainment at the dance.

Here is where the membership comes into play. WE NEED THE ASSOCIATION MEMBERS TO STEP UP TO HELP. The help needed is suggestions of Bands, Disc Jockey, who will work for not a lot of money.

With our vast resources of members we would appreciate your time to volunteer your efforts to preserve the dance portion of the Alumni tradition. We are using the web page to solicit your assistance. Send suggestions and support to janella@starband.net. As we make progress in this effort we will keep you informed by the Web page.

June 21, 2005

Another reunion has come and gone. The Board held their final meeting of the year on June 21 to wrap up this year's activities.

467 tickets were sold to the banquet and there was an excellent turnout for the dance. Those celebrating special anniversaries reported good attendance and the parade is getting better every year. Many stopped by the Tea on Saturday afternoon and the Coffee after the banquet.

History was made when the membership voted to allow spouses to attend the banquet and business meeting.

The Association honored its Outstanding Alumni of the Year, Dick Shores, from the Class of 1955. The Board invites you to be thinking of your nominations for next year.

We have an excellent organization steeped in tradition and it's interesting to see how our early reunions were celebrated.

January, 2005 . . .

We are pleased to say that DeeJay Kirby will be returning for the reunion dance in May. Dance tickets this year will be $5.

We also have a couple of other announcements. First, we are very pleased with the number of people who have signed up for the E-Mail Directory and/or the Mailing List. HOWEVER, it appears that many people have changed their e-mail address as many, many posts to the mailing list are bouncing. For those who are signed up for both lists, it means their published e-mail address is also incorrect. Please be sure to notify the webmaster if your address has changed.

Next, we are making good headway with the page honoring our staff members. We should be able to publish the link by the end of January. Although it still has a very long way to go, we believe it is a good start.

And, finally, we want to thank everyone for all the positive comments about the website. We always welcome your comments and suggestions. We monitor the website hits regularly and are pleased that the site is having several hundred hits each month.

May 30, 2004 . . .

Another reunion has come and gone. Check back next week - we will be posting pictures of the special classes and more information about this year's reunion.

May 14, 2004 . . .

Over 4200 letters were prepared and mailed to their classmates by the 74 Alumni secretaries. These men and women donate their time and effort to keep track of those in their group. In some of the earlier classes where the numbers have dwindled one person takes care of several classes. For the more recent graduates in which the class size is larger some of the secretaries have nearly one hundred envelopes to 'stuff' and address. The BIG job is, of course, to keep track of all these people in our mobile society. For the first time this year graduates were able to go to the Alumni website to print out their invitation!

Several classes have shared some plans for their celebrations. The 50-year class, Class of 1954, are starting the anniversary celebration with a dinner at the Elks Club on Friday evening. In addition to the scheduled Alumni activities on Saturday they will gather at the Memorial Hall on Saturday afternoon to greet friends.

The Class of 1969 who will be celebrating 35 years since graduation are gathering at the Osawatomie Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.

The Class of 1989 are spending Saturday afternoon at the Elks Club to reminisce about the fifteen years since their graduation from Osawatomie High School.

The Class of 1929 has only one member living in Osawatomie. Marie Sterbenz Barrett has sent out her letters but has had no response YET as to whom might join her to celebrate this 75th anniversary. Memorablia of the Class of 1929 is on display in Schrader Insurance window.

All classes having special parties need to make arrangements with the Graphic to have their picture taken to record the event.

The Trojan-Alumni quilt is on display in down town Osawatomie in the Coach Light window. The winning ticket will be drawn at 10 p.m. at the dance.

Tickets for the Alumni banquet and dance are available for purchase at the Locker Room. Only graduates and honorary faculty members may attend the dinner and meeting, but each member of the Osawatomie Alumni Association may buy a ticket for their guest to attend the dance at the City Auditorium.

Join your friends and family in this celebration! This year there are numerous second and third generations to be honored and two FOURTH generation families will be recognized. This is the 109th annual reunion.

Mar. 30, 2004 . . .

We are presently in the process of adding a new section to our webpage in honor of the teachers, principals and superintendents who have served at Osawatomie High School throughout the years. Please bear in mind, this is a work in progress and still has a very long way to go. Be sure to check out the new link for "Staff".

Feb 11, 2004 . . .

The contract was signed with Mobile Mix 93 for the DJ for the dance which will begin at 9 p.m. and end at 12 a.m. at the City Auditorium, 5th & Main, Osawatomie. They will furnish prizes for various contests. Music for the older Alumni will be played at the beginning with newer tunes included as the evening progresses.

Again, this year, there will be a quilt raffle. A 2004 "Trojan Quilt" is being made locally. The price of the tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn around 10 p.m. at the Alumni dance. You do not have to be present to win!

Update . . .

Results are in on the recent poll regarding whether to have a live band or DJ for the upcoming reunion dance. Votes were cast in favor of a DJ.

We are pleased to announce that we will have DJ Kirby from Mix 93.3. He will be playing a variety of music. There will also be contests and prizes provided by them.

Update . . .

OHS Alumni board members and 2004 Chairperson Suzy Colbert Crupper, '62, are meeting regularly to plan the 109th annual reunion. VOLUNTEERS are always needed for all positions. Contact one of the board or Suzy if you have a talent you will share.

Update . . .

This year Osawatomie is celebrating its 150th birthday. The Sesquicentennial committee has selected special times during the year to celebrate. The first time period is Alumni time in May with the parade on Saturday morning, May 29. Monetary prizes will be offered in various categories such as costume, float, etc. Donna Smith Darner '62 is the parade coordinator.

Other Sesquicentennial celebrations are scheduled during the John Brown Jamboree in June, Black Ties in August, and the actual 'Birthday of Osawatomie' in October.
